2011’s most stylish: We take a look back at the style influencers of the year
So, it’s nearly drawing to an end, as New Year’s eve looms, and the parties are pretty much happening as we speak. What a year 2011 has been: trends that took us by storm and included fruits of the tropical kind; the grandest wedding with the greatest wedding dress there ever was, and a whole host of super-stylish and enviously groomed celebrities tantalising our sartorial taste buds as usual.
So as an ode to the year that saw the fall of John Galliano, witnessed Burberry explode internationally, took in Kim Kardashian’s brief marriage and HUGE divorce, and the birth of some amazing teen-star fashion prodigies, we bring you our favourite trend-starting, show-stopping, craze-creating fashionistas of 2011.
Enjoy, and Happy 2012 from Team OB!
British Fashion Awards 2011 – Get our favourite looks from last night at Oxygen Boutique!
Last night, London’s luxury Savoy Hotel was abuzz with fashion’s major movers and shakers, as this year’s British Fashion Awards went underway. There were major wins for big names in the industry, but more to the point, we were concerned about what everyone would turn up in.
Considering the theme was fashion, it could only the best, of course. Alexa Chung, pictured below with Christopher Kane – The New Establishment Award – stole the show in a Kane embellished mini; forever being adored by the camera lenses as she accepted the style icon gong for the second year running – even beating Kate Middleton to it – in all her awkward tomboy glory.
Home-grown talent, Victoria Beckham, looked a delightful vision in a Gothic-inspired, backless floor length gown as she picked up the award for Designer Brand of the Year, while Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton, unsurprisingly, took home Designer of the Year.
Recreate some of our favourite looks from the night with select pieces from Oxygen Boutique, and don’t forget to check out major wins from the night, below.
Go Gothic à la Mrs. VB – We just loved how nonchalantly Victoria Beckham pulled of this Morticia Adams-inspired look last night. Recreate her look with this Alice + Olivia Rumor open back maxi dress. Just add a low-slung bun and lashings of liner.

Go for a nude hue with a Twenties-inspired twist in the style of style Georgia May Jagger – The gap-toothed beauty exudes unflappable cool in this flapper-style, Julian Macdonald dress. Channel Georgia’s vintage look with this nude Gryphon Flutter dress. Just add modellic charm and soft, unruly curls.
The No-no – SHOCK HORROR! We just can’t bring ourselves to fault Stella McCartney’s style acumen, but her contribution to the jumpsuit society last night wasn’t so flawless. We loved the chequered print, but the overall unflattering fit made for some rather unshapely viewing. If we had received a golden invite, we’d opt for the Sea NY Silk and Lace jumpsuit.
We commend Kate Moss’s brave choice: a fetish-rock inspired fishnet dress, worn casually over a long nude slip with her trademark scarlet lip; and another style note to emerge from the night: maxi dresses are here for good, so say Poppy Delevigne, Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss!

Blazing in the city!
The blazer is an all time staple. Nothing speaks louder than a well designed blazer, whether you opt for a tailored, cropped, long or mannish version. Rolling up the sleeves creates a more relaxed approached as seen on the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Moss. Gryphon had designed the perfect blazer; the metallic studs add a rock chic glamour look. The kova and T jacket looks super with the sleeves rolled up. Wear with a pair of skinnies and you are good to go.
