Gloss Gloss Gloss

Once, there was a time where we couldn’t turn a corner in the makeup section of a department store, a page in a magazine or a quick scroll on Instagram, without coming face to face with a matte lip. The dry, cracked lip that literally screams for moisture stared at you, begging for a swatch of Carmex, or at least some Vaseline. In the height of this era, we had the likes of Kylie Jenner (who went on to launch her own makeup range with matte lipsticks) and other celebrities who promised us that matte was the way forward.

24 hour staying power, non-transferable and not sticky where the main selling points; something that, in hindsight, was probably not true and actually completely sucked the moisture out of our lips. Thank goodness that hype has settled and gloss and tints has slowly started to be reintroduced into our makeup bags. Not that they ever really left.

Now, in 2019, we are taking it a little bit further with the gloss application. The debut of eye gloss is something that has graced the runways, a few celebrities braved the look, but for everyday use it just didn’t really catch on. Who’s going to turn up to their office looking like a sticky mess? Well we think we’ve found the answer.

Jillian Dempsey (Yes Patrick Dempsey’s wife) has been beautifying young Hollywood for their most important red carpet appearances, and has created her own range of makeup products so we all can get the Hollywood young starlet look, without actually having to hire a full on glam squad. Her cheek tints can double up as lip tints, taking us back to using our mothers’ pot rouge as teens, but with much, much better results. Adding a healthy glow to the face, making us feel a lot more awake than what we may feel. The creamy consistency works into the skin, and wears well over the course of the day, while powder blushes may just sit on the skin, making us look either like a clown, or like we have permanently been battling the treadmill. We’re not sure what’s worse. However, what we are particularly interested in are the lid tints. Coming in an array of colours, from barely there, to I’ve brought the party, all provide a fresh look that open the eye and add a natural sheen. Think lip gloss for the eyes but nowhere near as gloopy and more of a glowy gleam.

As well as that, all of the Jillian Dempsey products are cruelty-free and vegan-friendly, containing ingredients like Vitamin C and E, Jojoba Oil and Shea Butter to make sure that you’re getting the best out of your makeup. Can we sleep with it on?
