Tie Dye Is Back – But Are We Ready For It?

We can’t help but cringe a little at the thought of tie dye. Its resurgence brings back not-so-fond memories of bunching t shirts, wrapping them with rubber bands then dying them all kinds of questionable colours. The result? A fashion disaster in the form of a kaleidoscope. But this time, it’s different. We never thought we’d say it, but tie dye has undergone a glow up.

Gone are the primary colours and awkward pattern placement. A modern update years overdue, but definitely worth the wait. Brands like Saylor and Love Shack Fancy prove pastels make the perfect match, while Nanushka and Free People take an earthy, tonal approach. Where our rubber band mishaps made patterns clumsy, new season tie dye is more considered. Well-placed ripples circulate and reimagined linear patterns elongate silhouettes, this contemporary edition finally sees tie dye work with the garment rather than against it. Minor tweaks of palette and design have completely redefined the style, bringing it back from the brink of extinction.

Tie dye is back, and to your surprise and much as our own, we’re not just ready for it. We’re highly anticipating it.
